Bangkok Itinerary: The Perfect 5 Days (2026)
Bangkok is chaotic in the best way — this route uses the BTS Skytrain to skip traffic, spreads temples across the week, and leaves nights for the food that makes Bangkok arguably the best eating city in Asia.
When to go to Bangkok
November to February for cool + dry season. March to May is brutally hot. June to October is rainy but cheap and lush.
Typical daily budget for a mid-range traveler in 2026: ฿1,800–3,500/day (~$50–100). Prices below assume shoulder season; peak summer runs 20–40% higher, especially on lodging.
Getting around Bangkok
BTS Skytrain + MRT metro cover the core. Grab (rideshare) for anything else — cheaper and more honest than metered taxis. Motorbike taxis for short hops if you're brave. Avoid tuk-tuks unless you want to be a scam target.
Where to stay in Bangkok
Sukhumvit (near Asok BTS) for convenience. Silom for the mix of old + new. Ari for a more residential, hip base.
Day 1: Grand Palace + Wat Pho + Wat Arun
Grand Palace at opening (dress modestly — no shoulders/knees), Wat Pho for the reclining Buddha, ferry to Wat Arun for sunset.
Tip: Ignore anyone at the palace gate who says it's closed today. It's not — they're steering you to a tuk-tuk scam.
Day 2: Chatuchak or MBK + Rooftop
Chatuchak Weekend Market (Sat/Sun only) or MBK on weekdays, siesta, rooftop drinks at Vertigo or Sky Bar.
Day 3: Chinatown Food Crawl
Yaowarat by night for the greatest hits — Nai Ek Roll Noodle, T&K Seafood, dessert at Ah Long.
Day 4: Ayutthaya Day Trip
Train from Hua Lamphong or minivan (1.5h). Bike between temple ruins, back for a Bangkok dinner.
Day 5: Bang Krachao + Massage Day
Ferry to Bang Krachao (the 'green lung'), bike loop through jungle and canals, evening Thai massage at Health Land (book ahead).
What to eat in Bangkok
Jay Fai for the crab omelette (queue 4+ hours or book weeks out). Thipsamai for pad thai. Raan Jay Fai (different Jay Fai) for street classics. Err Urban Rustic Thai for a nicer sit-down.
Best day trip from Bangkok
Ayutthaya (above) for temples. Amphawa floating market (weekends) for a very different vibe from the touristy Damnoen Saduak.
