Morocco Itinerary: 7 Days Across the Country (2026)
The classic Morocco loop is Marrakech → Sahara → Fes, with the desert overnight as the payoff. Seven days is tight but doable if you accept the long drives and let a driver handle them.
When to go to Morocco
March to May and September to November. Summer inland is 40°C+. Winter in the mountains gets snow; coast stays mild.
Typical daily budget for a mid-range traveler in 2026: $70–150/day. Prices below assume shoulder season; peak summer runs 20–40% higher, especially on lodging.
Getting around Morocco
Trains connect Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Fes and Tangier — the Al Boraq is high-speed on the coastal line. For Sahara + Atlas: hire a private driver (~$80/day) rather than self-driving, because navigation and negotiations in the desert are their whole job.
Where to stay in Morocco
Marrakech: Medina riad. Fes: Fes el-Bali riad. Chefchaouen: any hillside guesthouse.
Day 1: Marrakech — Medina
Bahia Palace, souks, Jemaa el-Fna sunset, dinner on a rooftop.
Day 2: Marrakech — Majorelle + Cooking Class
Jardin Majorelle + YSL, cooking class in the afternoon, hammam evening.
Day 3: Drive to Dades Valley
Full driving day over the Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka pass, stop at Ait Ben Haddou, overnight in Dades.
Day 4: Dades to Merzouga Desert
Drive through the Todra Gorge, arrive Merzouga, camel trek into the dunes, overnight in a desert camp.
Day 5: Desert to Fes
Long driving day north through Middle Atlas + cedar forests, overnight in Fes.
Day 6: Fes — Medina
Guided medina tour (get lost otherwise), tanneries, Al Quaraouiyine, Bou Inania Madrasa, dinner at Nur.
Day 7: Chefchaouen Day Trip or Train Home
If time: bus/drive to Chefchaouen (3h) for the blue city. Otherwise train back to Marrakech or fly out of Fes.
What to eat in Morocco
Nomad and Café Clock in Marrakech. Nur in Fes for a splurge. Any tagine at a family-run riad. Fresh msemen for breakfast wherever you find it.
Best day trip from Morocco
Chefchaouen (above) or a day in Meknes + Volubilis Roman ruins from Fes.
